  • Heat the damaged area
  • Rework and add new asphalt
  • Level and compact
  • No seams left behind

How infrared repair works

A regular patch cuts out the damaged area and fills it, which leaves joints around the edge where water can get in later. Infrared repair heats the damaged section until the asphalt softens, then new hot asphalt is mixed in, raked level and compacted.

Because the old and new asphalt bond together, the repair becomes part of the surrounding pavement instead of a separate patch sitting in it.

What’s included

  • Heating the damaged area
  • Reworking the softened asphalt
  • Adding new asphalt where needed
  • Leveling and compacting the repair

How we do it

The same steps on every infrared repair job, so you know what to expect.

1

Heat

The damaged section is heated until the asphalt softens.

2

Rework

The softened asphalt is loosened and new hot asphalt is mixed in.

3

Level

The repair is raked level with the surrounding pavement.

4

Compact

It’s compacted into one solid surface, bonded to the asphalt around it.

No seams to fail

With no cut edges, there’s no joint for water to get into.

Water stays out

A bonded repair keeps water from working under the patch.

Fix only what’s damaged

Surface problems get repaired without tearing out more than needed.

A regular patch cuts out the damage and fills the hole, leaving edges. Infrared heats the existing asphalt so new material bonds into it, with no cut edges.

When the base under the asphalt has failed, the problem goes deeper than the surface. In that case we recommend remove-and-replace patching instead.

Yes. Once it’s done, the repair can be sealcoated along with the rest of the lot.
